Michaud Cooley Erickson performed the mechanical and electrical design for the Expansion 2000 addition and renovation project at Regions Hospital, located in St. Paul, Minnesota. The project includes a new Women’s Center with birthing and postpartum rooms, a new heart center with a catheterization lab and a cardiology clinic, a new surgical critical care unit, new and renovated operating rooms and a new gastroenterology clinic. A new ADT Lab for Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare is also included. Air handling for the new addition and part of the remodeled area is provided by three custom rooftop air handling units totaling 260,000 cfm. These units are provided with 95% efficient filters. The unit which serves surgery is also provided with HEPA and 2-stage gas phase filtration. A smoke evacuation system consisting of four 15,000 cfm exhaust fans and two make-up air sources is provided for the facility’s atrium.
