The Ninth Federal Reserve District Bank

The Ninth Federal Reserve District Bank in Minneapolis, one of twelve such banks in the Federal Reserve System, performs the dual task of regulation/policy making and meeting the cash, check and electronic payment needs of institutions. The 770,000-square-foot facility consists of an eight-story office tower and a four-story operations center. MCE analyzed potential sites during the conceptual phase, then implemented the mechanical and electrical systems that allow the bank to operate smoothly and efficiently.

This unique facility houses computer rooms, a full-service kitchen, cafeteria, fitness center, pistol range currency and coin vaults, secured loading docks and one of the largest hydronic snow melt systems in the Upper Midwest. Some of the engineering-intensive components designed by MCE include the building’s automation system, temperature-controlled variable air volume systems and computerized electrical monitoring capabilities. To guard against system shutdown caused by power outages, MCE designed an uninterruptible power system (UPS). Energy-efficient electrical and mechanical systems save energy and lower operating costs while ensuring continuous uptime.
