Mechanical Project Engineer / Designer

A Project role is a strong technical designer with significant experience in design. This person should be capable of taking on whole projects from start to finish, working independently to complete tasks or small projects. Working closely with the whole Project Team to complete the project, under the direction of the Project Manager and Lead role.

SUMMARY

A Project role is a strong technical designer with significant experience in design. This person should be capable of taking on whole projects from start to finish, working independently to complete tasks or small projects. Working closely with the whole Project Team to complete the project, under the direction of the Project Manager and Lead role.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Develop, maintain, and master knowledge of design and CAD applications
  • Develop, maintain, and teach other designers the construction process
  • Coordinate the development of Schematic Design information, such as equipment selections, room sizes, space requirements, and assist in writing a scope narrative
  • Research equipment, make selections, and complete equipment schedules
  • Incorporate design concepts from Schematic Design into Design Development
  • Work to produce Construction Documents
  • Document existing conditions and analyze operation of existing systems
  • Lay out the complete mechanical systems for the project
  • Produce calculations such as building HVAC loads, energy calculations and equipment sizing
  • Provide the drafting and documentation of entire projects, including providing sketches and design concepts for Project Team to document
  • Provide engineering solutions with the project team using experience, judgment and education
  • Coordinate ceiling, wall clearances, and structural impacts with design team and other design professionals
  • Assist in creating specialized diagrams such as plumbing isometrics
  • Assist in writing specifications, gathering specification sections, and incorporating project specific information
  • Select, modify, and develop details that will be used on projects
  • Assist in value engineering, by providing input on opportunities for cost reductions
  • Attend construction meetings and provide of site observation reports
  • Review shop drawings and coordinate with project team for further review
  • Respond to construction Requests for Information (RFI)
  • Create punch lists, addendums and project change documentation
  • Promote, use and participate in the development of MCE design and production standards
  • Review drawings and documents to ensure compliance with company standards
  • Research non-routine code issues and obtain interpretations from Code Officials
  • Maintain a substantial knowledge of applicable building codes and understand updates
  • Follow, research, maintain, and update client design standards
  • Provide document reviews for quality control and participate in peer reviews for adherence to internal and external design standards
  • Communicate details of project document completion within the company and externally with clients and other design professionals
  • Participate in internal team meetings and attend client design meetings
  • Communicate to the Project Manager personal work load, changes in scope or additional services
  • Communicate with the project construction team to aid in clarification and reduce conflicts
  • Be sensitive to architectural goals and strategies until they compromise the engineering systems
  • Interact professionally with Owners, Architects, Contractors, and other design professionals through email communication, phone calls and meetings
  • Maintain positive work relationships both internally and externally
  • Answer questions and give daily guidance to Project Team
  • Assist in the mentorship, education and development of the Project Team

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5-10 years of experience
  • Proficient in the use of current technology, including hardware and software applications
  • Proficient in the use of Revit and AutoCAD
  • General knowledge of mechanical systems

Project Engineer

  • Bachelor of Science from an accredited technical University in mechanical engineering and the completion of the Professional Engineering License exam

Project Designer

  • Bachelor of Science from an accredited technical University in mechanical engineering OR Technical or associate degree from an accredited technical institution or college in the engineering design areas of HVAC or plumbing

 

Fire Protection Engineer
