Technology Staff Designer / Engineer

A Staff Designer / Engineer role is an intermediate role with a basic foundation of design for Technology Systems. These systems include telecommunications and networks, audio and visual, security and video surveillance, fire alarm and mass notification, and others.

SUMMARY

A Staff Designer / Engineer role is an intermediate role with a basic foundation of design for Technology Systems. These systems include telecommunications and networks, audio and visual, security and video surveillance, fire alarm and mass notification, and others.

This person should be able to take on independent tasks for design up to full design of small projects to be reviewed by others. This person takes direction for most tasks and works closely with the Project Manager and other design staff members.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Maintain and master a knowledge of Technology Systems design, CAD, and/or Revit applications
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the construction process
  • Assist in the development of Schematic Design information, such as equipment selections, room sizes, space requirements, and assist in writing a scope narrative
  • Research equipment, assist in making selections, and complete equipment schedules
  • Research design options and document findings for the project team
  • Incorporate design concepts from Schematic Design into Design Development
  • Work to produce Construction Documents
  • Document existing conditions
  • Layout portions of the Technology Systems for the project
  • Provide drafting and documentation for projects, including implementing sketches and design concepts from others
  • Generate engineering solutions with the project team using experience, judgment and education
  • Assist in gathering specification sections, and providing project specific information for specifications
  • Review shop drawings and coordinate with project team for further review
  • Assist in responding to construction Requests for Information (RFI)

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 2+ years of experience
  • Positive, friendly, collaborative attitude and team mentality
  • Motivated, resourceful, and organized work habits
  • Proficient in the use of current technology, including hardware and software applications
  • General knowledge of Technology Systems

Staff Engineer

  • Bachelor of Science from an accredited technical University in mechanical engineering and the completion of the Professional Engineering License exam

Staff Designer

  • Bachelor of Science from an accredited technical University in engineering OR Technical or associate degree from an accredited technical institution or college in the design areas of electrical, communications, information technology, or electronic safety and security.
